Special Constables based in Telford will be on hand from Thursday 16th December until Saturday 18th December to support a fire safety event that Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service are holding in Telford Shopping Centre.
The event has been organised by the fire service so they can pass on safety tips to local people ahead of the Christmas break to ensure that nothing is allowed to spoil what should be an exciting time for everyone.
To support the event, Special Constables from Telford will be staffing a stand alongside fire officers and they will be able to speak to people about the type of precautions they can take to keep themselves safe and secure.
Inspector Derek Holland, who co-ordinates the work of the Special Constabulary in Telford, said:
“Not only will the Special Constables be on hand to offer safety advice, but they will also be keen to speak to people about what it’s like to be a ‘Special’ and answer any queries that they have.
“We are always keen to add to the number of Special Officers we have available to assist our full time officers and I would encourage anyone who’s ever thought about becoming a special to pop along to this stand to have a chat with individuals who are actually serving as Specials right now.
“As well as being able to speak face-to-face with officers there will also be a lot of literature and information available for people to take away with them so please do approach the stand.
“The Fire Service has put a lot of work into this event and their ‘Stand By Your Pan’ campaign for Christmas so please do make the effort to visit them during this event. We can all do a little more to protect ourselves from harm and events like this give people the opportunity to learn more about personal safety in a friendly and informal environment.”
