Oswestry needs new firefighters ready to turn out to answer emergency callouts in and around the town.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is looking for men and women to join the team of skilled firefighters at Oswestry Fire Station who answer about 400 calls each year to deal with house fires, road crashes, and a wide range of other incidents.
A recruitment campaign will be held in Festival Square, Oswestry, on Saturday, June 9 from 9.30am to 4pm when anyone interested can talk to firefighters.
As the county’s third largest town, Oswestry needs more firefighters as numbers are falling due to retirements.
There will be displays of equipment and information on the application, recruitment and training processes that any applicant will need to complete.
Retained Support Officer Mel Kapitanec said: “We are hoping to get a high response. We are down on staff numbers able to respond to emergency calls on the fire appliance during weekdays between 8am and 6pm and would welcome applications from anyone who can cover these hours.
“If you live or work within five minutes of Oswestry Fire Station, are over 18, and looking for an exciting spare time opportunity, the Retained Fire Service may be for you.”
Interested applicants can get their questions answered and pick up an application form in Festival Square on the day.
Oswestry firefighters work for local employers who allow them to answer emergency calls to protect people and property in the area.
