At 2:34am on the 27th June 2012 Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service were mobilised to a person reported property fire at Newstart supported housing scheme, 18 – 24 Revlow Court, Brunel Road, Telford TF4 2DS.
Three fire appliances from Telford Central, Tweedale and Wellington were sent to the incident. On arrival the crew were faced with a severe fire in a first floor bedroom.
Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property to search for the missing person with thermal imaging cameras and two hosereel jets to fight the fire. After a very short time a male was located in the bedroom and was rescued by firefighters. He was treated at the scene by ambulance paramedics and taken to hospital. The fire was quickly extinguished and was contained to the bedroom of the property.
A joint police and fire investigation is currently underway into the cause of the fire although it is not being treated as suspicious.
The fact that the property had working smoke alarms alerted other residents to the fire who were all evacuated. We urge everyone to ensure they have working smoke alarms in their property and ensure they are tested regularly.
