Rock star Brian Ferry helped raise more than £200 for the Firefighters’ Charity at Wellington Fire Station’s open day.
His champagne gift to firefighters who helped save the life of son Merlin in a car crash in Shropshire last year was raffled at the event.
Raffle ticket sales were high during Saturday’s open day which saw a good public turnout watch Wellington firefighters showcase their skills including a demonstration from the brigade’s animal rescue team.
There were also eye-catching displays on the ferocity of a kitchen fire, a small gas explosion, and pump and ladder drills with important fire safety advice from the fire prevention team.
Merlin Ferry was badly injured in a crash near Cound in December last year in which crews from Much Wenlock, Shrewsbury and Wellington worked to free Merlin Ferry from the wreckage. The champagne arrived soon afterwards with a thank you note from Bryan Ferry.
