Easter Fire Safety Campaign

Test your smoke alarm
Remind friends and family about the importance of smoke alarms in the home

Remind friends and family about the importance of smoke alarms in the home – that is the fire safety message from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service this Easter.

Members of the fire prevention team have launched their annual Friends and Family campaign to encourage the use of smoke alarms in county homes.

They are calling on everyone in the Shropshire area to spread the word to friends, family and neighbours about the importance of every home having a smoke alarm that works and to test it regularly.

“When you visit older relatives, friends or neighbours, who may need extra support, please test their smoke alarm by pushing the test button to ensure it works. It is a vital fire safety message which could save someone’s life one day,” said Alison Teece, of the fire prevention team.

“Having working smoke alarms and knowing what to do in the event of a fire is important to us all.”

Free home fire safety visits and free smoke alarms are available to elderly and vulnerable people. To apply for a visit call 01743 260200.

Most accidental fires are caused by cooking left unattended and people are more likely to die in a fire in a house where there is no working smoke alarm.

Firefighters from Telford Central Station will be at Tesco’s in Madeley,Telford, between midday and 1pm on Good Friday and Easter Saturday to give out fire safety advice to shoppers.
