A Shropshire sportsman is all fired up ready to play rugby for England and hoping his team will return home with a win against Wales later this month after two previous defeats.

Ludlow firefighter George Jacks (26) has been picked for the third consecutive year to play for the England fire service’s national squad.

A flanker for Ludlow Rugby Club, George will wear the number six shirt when he represents his country on November 25 at the Newport ground in Wales in front of 5,000 spectators.

“Unfortunately we have lost every time I’ve played but hopefully this time it will be third time lucky and we will win,” said George, an on call firefighter for the past three years based at Ludlow Fire Station.

George got his first call up to the national fire service squad in 2014 when his team lost 27 to 24 to Wales followed by a 52-33 defeat last year.

“Every national match is very intense and fast paced,” said George, who works as a supervisor at the Ludlow Nut Company.

“I am the only Shropshire player to represent the English fire service team and it is very special to be picked for the national side and play at that level,” said the former Ludlow School pupil.
