The new Chief Fire Officer of Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has been appointed by Shropshire and Wrekin Fire and Rescue Authority.
John Redmond, the current Deputy Chief Fire Officer will take over in July from the present Chief Fire Officer Paul Raymond, who is retiring.
Originally from Wallasey on Merseyside, John gained a degree in geography at the University of Hull in 1982.
He joined London Fire Brigade in 1983 and spent 12 years in the capital in a variety of roles before moving to Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service in 1995.
While in Cheshire, he gained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Liverpool University working as a part time student. He undertook a wide range of responsibilities as head of department including training, fire prevention and also operational delivery.
He joined Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service in 2010 on appointment as Deputy Chief Fire officer and is currently responsible for service delivery.
John will take up his post on July 8.

Fire Authority chairman, Councillor Stuart West, said: “After a selection process earlier this year John was proposed as the new CFO to the full fire authority and was unanimously accepted as our new CFO.
“I would like to congratulate John on his appointment and wish him every success in his new role.”
