More than 100 finalists, sponsors and guests gathered at Twickenham Rugby Stadium for the annual British Dyslexia Association Awards this weekend where Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service scooped a top award. (Friday 29, November)
The ‘Organisation Award’ recognises support provided by the Service to employees living with dyslexia, including specialised equipment, one-to-one support, dyslexia awareness training for managers and personalised tuition.
Chief Fire Officer Rod Hammerton said: “Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service strive to be inclusive, so I am particularly pleased and proud that we have been recognised with this award.”
Natalie Parkinson, equality, diversity and inclusion officer for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Since starting our support programme in 2007, we have received more than 90 referrals and supported 63 people on their journey with dyslexia.
“We’ve built on the Shropshire Dyslexia Awards in 2017 for being a ‘Supportive Employer’ where the judges called us ‘super champions’ and ‘role models’ so to now be recognised on a national level, makes us incredibly proud and drives us to continue supporting our employees throughout their employment with us.”
The British Dyslexia Association is a charity which aims to promote a dyslexia friendly society, celebrates the achievements of dyslexic individuals and encourages people of all ages to reach their full potential.
They host the annual awards ceremony to celebrate supportive employers and raise awareness of best practice in the workplace.
