At 5:08pm on Saturday evening Shropshire Fire and Rescue Services control room received a call from Sleap Airfield near Wem reporting a light aircraft experiencing difficulty with its landing gear.

The ability to tackle pollution incidents in the county has been boosted with a joint initiative between Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service and the Environment Agency.

At 5.05pm Tuesday 16th April 2013 Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to a gorse fire covering 2.5 hectares at Novers Hill, Cwmdale, Church Stretton.

Fire crews from Church Stretton, Craven Arms, Shrewsbury, Tweedale, Telford and Much Wenlock were called to the scene, and the fire was brought under control at 6.25pm. It is in the same area of a similar gorse fire SFRS were called out to at 5.46pm on Wednesday 13th March 2013.

The 2013 Carp national competition will be held at Wyreside Lakes, Lancashire from 11am Tuesday 24th to 1pm Thursday 26th September 2013. The competition will follow the format of a 48 hour match with a water craft draw.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service have attended another report of a wheelie bin fire at 8.47pm on Wednesday 10th April 2013 on Woodrows, Woodside, Telford. The wheelie bin was deliberately set on fire.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service have attended five wheelie bin fires on Woodside since February 2013.

Our advice is always store wheelie bins well away from the front of property’s, and only put out bins on the day of collection.

On 31st March Stu Rushton from Green Watch, Telford shattered the Guinness World Record by running the Ironbridge half marathon in full fire kit in 2hrs 00mins 47secs. Stu wanted to say thankyou to Alec Thomas, from his watch, for running ahead of him videoing the whole event.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service have been called out on seven occasions since the end of February to grass fires around the area of the underpass in Whitchurch Drive, Wellington.

All of the fires have been started deliberately and on occasions there have been multiple seats of fires.

Whilst fire crews are dealing with these fires they are unable to respond to more serious fires or accidents.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service attended a report of a wheelie bin fire at 8.25pm on Tuesday 19th March 2013 in Waltondale, Woodside, Telford.

The wheelie bin was set on fire at the front of the property and caused fire and smoke damage to the door and porch area. Firefighters from Telford Central and Tweedale attended and entry was forced to the property as initial reports suggested that the occupants were inside the property.
