THE FUTURE FOR FIRE AND RESCUE IN SHROPSHIRE

The people of Shropshire are being asked to give their views to help shape the future of a trimmed down Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service hit by £4m in budget cuts.

Senior fire officers are giving the public an opportunity to have their say on a major new cost cutting plan in the fight to “balance the books” after phased multi million pound cuts due to the Government’s austerity campaign.

The public has “a powerful voice” which led to the scrapping of a previous plan to close four rural fire stations, said Assistant Chief Fire Officer Andy Johnson.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service fly rainbow flag to support IDAHO

Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service have raised a rainbow flag over their Shrewsbury Headquarters and Telford Training Centre to demonstrate their support for the International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO).

The week long display of the rainbow flag marks their commitment to challenge homophobia, to provide a supportive and accepting workplace for LGBT employees; and to celebrate the recent same-sex marriage legislation.

5 a side football tournament

As I stand in the queue for the lift on the ground floor of Headquarters (the stairs are looking like a daunting task for some reason!) a number of colleagues have already commented on what a great afternoon was had by all at the Shrewsbury Sports Village on Sunday.

Thanks to the superb efforts of Nick Davies (RW/SY) 13 teams and their supporters came together to revive what has always traditionally been an annual Service 5 a side football tournament.
