Shropshire and Wrekin Fire Authority precept proposal - have your say

Shropshire and Wrekin Fire Authority is proposing an increase of 2.99 per cent to the portion of council tax which goes to Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service. This equates to just over £3.30 per year, or 6p per week and we want to hear what you think about the proposal.

The Authority is nationally recognised for delivering a top performing fire and rescue service, which constantly reviews how its services are delivered, to ensure that it runs effectively and efficiently for the public of Shropshire.

Local Darts League Raises £2,500 for The Fire Fighters Charity

Neil Evans, General Secretary of the Shrewsbury and District Darts League, chose the Charity as the league’s summer season beneficiary after its work was highlighted by another member of the committee.

Neil said:

“We raise money for different charities each year and when we heard about The Fire Fighters Charity, we felt it was a really good way to give back to the emergency services.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Control Operators Celebrated During International Control Room Week 2023

They are the calm voice at the end of the line in times of emergency and the first point of contact for people in crisis. Control Room operators are the frontline of emergency services and International Control Room Week is a chance to champion and celebrate these often-unsung heroes.

Festival of Carols 2023

This year our annual Festival of Carols will take place on Friday 8 December from 6:30pm. Shrewsbury Fire Station’s appliance bay will open its doors at 6pm for refreshments, followed by carols, a raffle and a guest appearance from the man in red himself!

All donations and raffle proceeds will go to our chosen charities The Fire Fighters Charity and Severn Hospice.

No need to book, just bring friends and family along to celebrate the festive season.

SFRS teams take part in National Breathing Apparatus Challenge

Two teams from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service took part in the National Breathing Apparatus Challenge (NBAC) on Saturday 7 October at the Fire Service College in Gloucestershire. The NBAC is an annual competition designed to test firefighters’ from around the UK on their breathing apparatus and ground crewing abilities.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service celebrates achievements and long service at annual awards night by the River Severn

Theatre Severn hosted a long service and good conduct awards ceremony last night (Monday 2 October) for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) staff.

Honoured on the night were 42 recipients of the Long Service and Good Conduct, presented to employees in recognition of 20, 30 or 40 years of exemplary service.

Before presenting the medals Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire, Mrs Anna Turner JP, said:

New recruits and achievers honoured at evening of celebration

Last night (Monday 11th September) Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury hosted an evening of awards and celebration for the latest batch of on-call and control operator firefighters to join Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Friends and family were invited along to see the 23 firefighters receive their certificates, with a select few being awarded the silver axe for top student on their course.
