“Pure Luck” Saves Woman From Fire

A Shropshire woman was today thanking the stroke of luck she says saved her life after fire struck at her home in High Ercall.

Lynn Wickson was asleep in bed late at night when she was suddenly woken by the sound of her smoke alarm. She ran into the smoke-filled living room of her bungalow in Crossfields and found her Christmas decorations ablaze.

Fire Warning on E-Cigarette Chargers

 

A warning about the dangers of exploding e-cigarettes has been issued by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Fire chiefs have released graphic film footage of an e-cigarette being engulfed in flames after an incompatible charger overheated. Fire officers tested a standard e-cigarette being charged with a non standard charger, which burst into flames after just 35 minutes.

They have caused more than 100 fires nationwide –resulting in one death –although no reported incidents yet in Shropshire.

Fire Chief urges businesses to focus on fire safety

Shropshire’s chief fire officer is urging businesses to double check their fire safety in the run-up to Christmas.

John Redmond says Christmas can bring additional fire risks for businesses as many store large amounts of extra stock, take on many more seasonal employees and prepare for a Christmas and New Year shutdown.

999 Calls Will Be Answered During Strike Says Fire Chief

Shropshire’s chief fire officer says that emergency calls to serious fires and rescues will be answered and dealt with normally during a 24-hour strike by firefighters due to begin on Tuesday morning.

John Redmond says contingency plans are in place to ensure that emergency calls and response times will be unaffected by the strike but he has urged the public to think twice before making a 999 call.

Hadley Learning Community Multi-Cultural Community Mela

Principal Dr Gill Eatough invited everyone to Hadley Learning Community to be part of their multi-cultural, community Mela on Tuesday 25th November 2014 to celebrate Eid and Diwali. Shropshire Fire Rescue Service were proud to a part of the event. There were lots of stalls, fantastic food and entertainment for everyone. All proceeds raised were donated to Children in Need.

SHROPSHIRE STUDENTS IN MOCK CAR CRASH EDUCATION

About 300 first year students from Harper Adams University, Edgmond, Nr Newport, witnessed a crew from Shropshire FIre & Rescue's Newport retained station demonstrate rescue techniques to release a casualty from a scrap saloon vehicle which had been involved in a road traffic collision.
The purpose of the demonstration was to reduce the number of incidents involving young drivers and get a very important message over., said Newport firefighter Martin Richardson.

Man and dog rescued from cliff ledge

Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service Fire Control received a call at 08:40 to a man and his dog trapped on a cliff face in Nesscliffe Hill Country park.

Mr Keogh from Bomere Heath returned to the park this morning after losing his dog the previous night. Mr Keogh found Fenn shivering on a ledge and attempted to rescue Fenn, when he himself became stuck.

A crew from Baschurch using line safety equipment successfully rescued Mr Keogh and Fenn from the ledge and they were both happily reunited with the rest of the family.

RAGS TO RICHES FOR FIREFIGHTERS CHARITY

 

Shropshire firefighters are turning rags to riches for the Fire Fighters’ Charity after the successful launch of 13 recycling centres at county fire stations.

For the past six months, the Fire and Rescue Service has been working with the charity to collect textile donations.

Clothes banks at local fire stations have so far raised more than £2,500 for the charity.

Service Co-ordinator Ashley Brown said: " So far the scheme has been a great success with donations steadily increasing.

AWARDS TO TOP NEW FIREFIGHTER RECRUITS

 

A total of 25 new firefighter recruits completed their intensive initial training courses at Telford’s firefighter training centre and had “key” qualities including the ability to keep going “when it gets tough” and the physical courage to complete the demands put upon them, said Chief Fire Officer John Redmond, at their "passing out" ceremony held in Shrewsbury.

NEW RECRUITS JOIN A SUCCESSFUL SHROPSHIRE FIRE SERVICE

Firefighters who put out fires and carry out car crash rescues in Shropshire have successfully cut the number of emergencies they attend by more than a third in almost a decade, said the county’s Chief Fire Officer.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service had been “very successful” in its main role to prevent emergency incidents happening through successful public education campaigns working with the help of other organisations, John Redmond told the latest firefighter recruits at their “passing out” ceremony at the Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury tonight. (Monday, November 17th)
