Call for Extra Vigilance During Strike

The Fire Brigade’s Union will be taking a series of strikes over eight days from Saturday August 9 until Saturday August 16.

There will be two periods of strikes on each of the eight days with the first period between 12pm and 2pm and the second between 11pm and midnight each day. The strikes are in support of the FBU’s ongoing campaign against changes to pensions proposed by the Department of Communities and Local Government.

A Firefighting Life for Shropshire Women

More Shropshire women interested in becoming county firefighters attended an introductory session at Shrewsbury fire HQ.

A total of 19 turned out for the third "taster" session over the weekend following on from similar events in Craven Arms and Oswestry earlier this year.

They learned how they could join the county’s 300 plus “on call” fully trained firefighters who deal with around the clock emergencies.

Launch of Shropshire Summer Fire Safety Campaign

 

A major fire safety campaign is being launched by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service to reduce injuries from accidental fires that traditionally increase during the summer.

Firefighters and community fire safety officers are giving advice on fire prevention over the next few weeks at county markets, shows, carnivals and festivals in July and August.

Women Firefighters - A "Taster" Day on July 19 in Shrewsbury

More women are being encouraged to become firefighters by enrolling with Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

A third “taster” day just for women will be held at Shrewsbury fire HQ on July 19 after two successful previous events in Craven Arms and Oswestry.

The brigade wants to attract more women to join the county’s 300 plus “on call” fully trained firefighters who deal with around the clock emergencies.

Car Dealership Donate Scrap Car for Firefighter Training

A Shropshire car dealership has donated a scrap car to Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service to help firefighters practice rescue techniques.

The left hand drive Peugeot silver estate was delivered to Shrewsbury fire HQ by Rybrook Shrewsbury and will be used as part of regular training exercises to keep firefighters fully prepared to deal with vehicle crashes on county roads.

Group Commander Neil Griffiths thanked the Mini dealership for the vehicle which will be used to train firefighters in casualty care.

Shropshire Fire Aid to Romania

A team of volunteers from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service have set off for their annual trip to Romania to donate much needed fire equipment and to provide aid to an old people’s home.

The aid convoy will travel 1,800 miles across Europe to deliver four fire engines, two 4x4 vehicles, equipment and uniforms to fire stations in Transylvania.

A total of three firefighters from Merseyside are also joining the 11 strong Shropshire expedition codenamed Operation Sabre.

Shropshire Fire Budget - A Public Appeal

The people of Shropshire are being asked to give their views on major cost cutting plans for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service at a series of public meetings being held across the county in July.

The public can question fire chiefs and members of Shropshire and Wrekin Fire Authority about plans to move Shrewsbury’s fire control and merge it with a larger 999 control centre outside the county saving £300,000 a year.

“We want the people of Shropshire to give us feedback about what they think of the proposals,” said Assistant Chief Fire Officer Andy Johnson.

Telford Central Fire Station Open Day - CANCELLED

A new period of industrial action will unfortunately fall on the same day as the planned Open Day at Telford Central Fire Station.

Because of this unforeseen circumstance we have cancelled the event.

Sincere apologies to everyone who was planning to attend.

 

Telford Central Fire Station will be hosting an Open Day on Saturday, 9 August 2014 at 11:00am.

There will be various stalls and refreshments.

An ideal day out for the family, all welcome.

Fire Safety For Shropshire Children

Children are learning about fire safety with Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service during Child Safety Week.

Fire crews from across the county are educating youngsters about the dangers from fire at a series of events.

They include playgroup visits to Bridgnorth fire station, Whitchurch firefighters at a supermarket, the brigade’s Outreach education vehicle at a party in a park at Albrighton, and a visit to a nursery in Shrewsbury. Firefighters will also be at Admaston House community centre on June 28 with a fire engine to talk to families about fire safety.
