Sally's Firefighting Fit

A firefighter who feared she would never walk again after breaking her back in an accident has raised £2,200 for the charity which got her back on her feet.

Sally Barnett (42) also did it in style with a sponsored weekly walk up The Wrekin for a whole year including Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve, wearing full firefighting kit and carrying a breathing apparatus cylinder weighing 17.5kg for a total distance of 85,280ft.

Tweedale Needs You

Do you live or work within five minutes of Tweedale Fire Station in Telford ? Could you be an On-call Firefighter ? These are the questions being asked by staff at Tweedale fire station where a drop in session aimed at recruiting more firefighters is being held on Saturday, September 6 between 10am and 2pm.

Staff will be available to answer any questions people may have on becoming an On-call firefighter.

Is Your Business Safe From Fire ?

How to reduce the risk of fire to Shropshire business is the subject under discussion at a series of seminars organised by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service for September.

Companies are being urged to send a senior representative to the seminars at fire stations in Telford, Shrewsbury, Oswestry and Ludlow, to learn more about their legal responsibilities about fire safety.

A Firefighting Life for Shropshire Women

More Shropshire women interested in becoming county firefighters attended an introductory session at Shrewsbury fire HQ.

A total of 19 turned out for the third "taster" session over the weekend following on from similar events in Craven Arms and Oswestry earlier this year.

They learned how they could join the county’s 300 plus “on call” fully trained firefighters who deal with around the clock emergencies.
