The risk of fire to people living in the Telford area was graphically revealed to a new intake of police Community Support Officers at a training session held at Telford Fire Station.

The men and women who back up local police officers and help promote safer communities were shown the very real dangers posed to people from fire.

Firefighters were called to a property in Wellington at 18:36hrs last night after reports of a kitchen fire.

At 11.40am Fire Control received numerous calls to a fire at the old factory site, Ennerdale Road, Shrewsbury. Two fire appliances from Shrewsbury were initially mobilised to the incident.

On arrival the Officer in charged was confronted with a fire in the top floor of the building with large plumes of black smoke coming from the roof.

The officer in charge requested additional fire appliances and two aerial ladder platforms to attend the incident.

A special plaque to "a special man" was unveiled at a ceremony held at Wem Fire Station.

The plaque is dedicated to the late Sam Huxley, a saleseman at Hartshorne's Volvo dealership, who was so helpful in organising a new fire engine for Wem back in 1996.

For the past 11 years the brass plate bearing his name has been sited on the fire appliance travelling to emergencies throughout the area.

Farming is a family tradition in Shropshire - as is firefighting.

Many of the county's retained fire crews in rural Shropshire come from farming families - some going back generations - and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has thanked them for their service at a special "awards" ceremony held at Hodnet Fire Station.

The Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia has launched a campaign, aimed at 17 to 24 year olds, to help reduce casualties and deaths on the region's roads.

Minsterley has got a brand new fire engine - and now it wants more firefighters to join up to help crew it.

An open day is being held at the fire station on October 21 from 10am to 2pm for potential recruits interested in joining up to come and meet firefighters and find out more about the retained fire service.

Eric Humphries, Mayor of Much Wenlock, has presented a cheque for £330 to Chief Fire Officer Alan Taylor on behalf of the the Fire Services National Beneveolent Fund.

The money was raised at the local Community Safety Open Day held at Much Wenlock Fire Station on 1 September 2007.
