Glittering night of achievement for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service

 

Theatre Severn hosted a long service and good conduct awards ceremony last night for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) staff.

Honoured on the night were 10 recipients of the Long Service and Good Conduct, presented to employees in recognition of 20 years of exemplary service.

Before presenting the medals Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire, Mrs Anna Turner JP, said:

“It’s always an honour and a privilege to meet people like yourselves and convey the appreciation of the people of Shropshire for all that you do”

New on-call firefighters honoured at evening of celebration

Last night (Monday 25 July) Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury hosted an evening of awards and celebration for the latest batch of on-call firefighter recruits to join Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Friends and family were invited along to see the 26 firefighters receive their certificates, with a select few being awarded the silver axe for top student on their course.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service staff member named on The Queen’s New Year’s Honours List

Prevention Manager, Rabinder Dhami, joined SFRS in 1995 and has spent his career working in the Prevention department which oversees the fire safety of vulnerable people in their own homes.

The medal, which is a British and Commonwealth award for civil or military service worthy of recognition by the Crown, will be presented to him by Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for Shropshire, Anna Turner later in the year.

Upon hearing the news of his award, Rabinder, from Telford, said:

Fire Service’s Chaplain honoured with the British Empire Medal

The medal is awarded for meritorious civil or military service worthy of recognition by the Crown.

He has been highlighted for his services to the people of Shropshire as a result of his career and community work in the region.

Keith, who lives in Telford, said:

“I’m really quite overwhelmed. I could not have achieved this without the unwavering support of family, friends and the many people who have been involved in my life and work for so many years.

“I served with West Midlands Police from 1969 before retiring from my role as Inspector in 1995.

Long-serving Fire Service staff celebrated with awards night

Theatre Severn hosted a long service and good conduct awards ceremony last night for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) staff who have achieved 20 or 30 years service. Miniature medals for family members of serving firefighters were also presented by Councillor Eric Carter, Chair of Shropshire and Wrekin Fire Authority.

A taste of firefighting for women

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service are offering women the opportunity to experience what it takes to start an exciting career with them as an on-call firefighter with a taster session being held at Ellesmere Fire Station on Saturday 22 May.

Visitors will be shown around fire appliances, equipment such as breathing apparatus and watch a demonstration from the Ellesmere crew.

Smallest inland fire service administers 10,000 COVID-19 Vaccinations

Firefighters from one of the country’s smallest fire and rescue services have now administered 10,000 vaccinations into the arms of Shropshire residents since mid-February.   

Around 60 Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service staff – both operational and support - have worked with NHS partners to train and be redeployed at three centres across the county with one staff member celebrating his one thousandth jab today.

Deputy Chief embarks on retirement

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service’s (SFRS), Deputy Chief Fire Officer, has now retired after a total of 22 years’ service.

David Myers has been instrumental in helping transform the organisation into a sustainable service, fit for the future and in championing better working lives for staff.

Mr Myers said: “It has been a pleasure working in Shropshire and I want to thank everyone for their support and hard work over the few years I have been here.
